105 was a blinding groupset in the day. We have it on my Mrs orbit pro. Fantastic quality. I remember in the shop being quite hard pushed to really see what punters were getting going to the 600 series. There was a big jump in quality and weight to dura ace, but there was a big cost jump too.

I think companies hide " value engineering" decisions in either trickle down bull or in price freezes.

The problem only comes to light when your in our retro position and are comparing products 30 years apart.

Between this years and nexts models, all changes will look like trickle down advances.....you wont see that extra bit of plastic that was metal!

Just on a side note :

I know about Alivio, Stx, DX etc but not so much about Formula and Quando hubs.

I thought they were both 'budgets' but seeing what's being asked for Formula i'm not so sure.

I had a Chris king 1 1/4 headset on an old bike, I got a new bike built with an actiontec fork which takes 1 1/4 headset so took the Chris king off the old bike. I put a YST on the old bike and could not tell at all that it didn't have the Chris king on it anymore. Heck my Chris king was one of the really old ones that didn't even say Chris king on it so who was I even impressing with that thing!

I think I am too old and out of shape to even notice good from bad parts.
