As there is no proper cable holder?, only for inner cable - whats the best course of action?

I've got the rather bendy noodle and then some see through plastic cable going round the inner before it hits the little inner cable holder. Make sense? If not, pictures tell a thousand words..

Any better solutions? Answers on a postcard, or just a reply will do.

cheers me dears

Outer cable seems the best course of action to take, as per on my old Tempest.

Had this problem with my old Karakoram years back.

These frames were made for cantis, not Vs and work best with plastic liner run through the slot.

For V-brakes you might want to consider the 2-step cable stops as used on old school road read mech cable outer but you will still run into "spongy" feeling.

I solved it by running V-s on the front and the Grafton-copy Record OR canti on the rear which worked better with a V-lever than with a canti lever.

But that's probably a less than helpful suggestion.

Just fit a very short bit of outer between the frame cable stop and the noodle. If memory serves I think you need a 90 degree noodle and then the rest of the bend is taken by the flexible cable. The cable routing is not particularly pleasing but that's how my 1996 Ricochet came.

ok cool, cheers.

I cant get the outer to fit but i guess a quick go with a pen knife and i shoud be able to sort something!

thanks for the replies

I ran the short-bit-of-outer-before-the-noodle approach, but used a plastic ferrule on the end that went into the cablestop, which I trimmed into a taper, and then rammed home to avoid any spongy feeling - worked a treat.
Hope you understand that, I've no pictures to ease the explanation but I think it makes sense (?).

Yeah - that isn't going to work great. There is no specific stop on the early ones, there was a v-shaped router for bare cable to run through - like on my 1993 Zaskar. On mine, I used an old chainring bolt as a stop and used outer cable to the noodle. The V shaped router is sized such that a cable without a larger spacer will pull through. Mine has a Very very solid feel to it.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone successfully fitted cantilevers and had them feel any good? I've got some Paul's components cants that I just can't get to feel right on it - or maybe getting used to Vs has got me expecting too much....

i had some M900's i was really impressed with. good tight cables and triangle-type straddles (not the shimano ones) are the key

oh and dont fit NOS pads that have been lying round since god was a boy, they'll be rock hard - the jagwire ones off ebay are cheap and provide plenty of stopping
