using a front mech on a downhil bike

my foes mono is designed to use a single chain ring I cant use a e type front mech as the swing is in the way

I think I can however mount one from where the chain roller is intended to go

am I right in thnking if I get a front mech designed to work on two chain rings slx double for example then it will sit further away from the frame ( a mech designed for a granny ring would hit the frame )
