Unknown Roberts- Tip find

What an awesome find... I got my Roberts in a similar way too!

Mine had early 90's components on it, but it was actually built in 1965

What is the serial number (on the BB) That could help date it a bit more accurately?

Just going to suggest SunTour Power Shifter band-on down tube shifters.
Available on Ebay for around £20-30.
Also in all chrome if you wait for a bit.

Possibly the best friction shifters ever made, and work fine with SunTour Cyclone GT rear deraileur.
I can friction shift 8 speed with that combination, but normally I use it on a SunTour ultra-6 13-32 freewheel.
And they're period - 82ish.

Thanks for this, great info! I think it’s a 80/81 as the previous number 313 was delivered in 79. Also found out the SL tubing was 79-81.

Could be!! The tubing availability is a good guide as you say!!

Thanks, the tubing was only sold as a complete bike to the builder, so all tubing is the same across the bike from the information I’ve found so far.

Definitely had other plans for last night but had to do this! Rear wheel is loose at the bearings as well as a wobble at the bottom bracket
