Unknown Rims

So I acquired another bike of reasonable spec, LX throughout. Interestingly I have found the bike to be low mileage and hardly any wear. But with lockdown getting to me I found the rims extremely worn. However, are they? Upon closer inspection with my beer goggles I find the surface hardly worn except the bottom of the braking surface which seems to have a ridge/lip almost to prevent the pads from going under the rim? They are equal on both wheels/sides and am now intrigued to some cunning plan back in the 90's. New one to me any ideas?

Some FIR rims had a very large lip next to the tire.

Well done that man! Did a bit of research and although no decals, are the same as the Fir built rims for Orange, the Or1, seen for sale here on a post from June this year. Thanks for the help, greatly appreciated.

Some campagnolo rims had the concave rim surface also - supposed to prevent the brake blocks from rIding up on to the tyres as they wear.

Unless you were to wear a set of brake blocks down on a single 'end to end' ride without checking, I suspect a solution to a problem that didn't really exist.

Quite like Campagnolo's approach to MTB parts in general!
