Univega rigid mountain bike

They were light and well spec'd for the money. Normally full double butted frames with full groupsets on them. We used to sell loads of them before they started to lose their value ofr money as they became better known

Univega Alpina

I had one of these as my first bike around '89 or '90, with deore exage groupset and a U brake just behind the bottom bracket. This looks a few years newer as they started adding 'decimal' numbers after the name. I think they were owned by Specialized. Bike was pretty light for the time.

A friend of mine had that exact same bike, it was a sweet ride, very light as mentioned before and had that awesome black LX group including the excellent canti's with the aluminum pad holders, funny chainstays as I remember.

I've got a couple of Univegas. I'd guess this is around the mid 90's - 94 or 95. The Alpina frames were double butted 4130 cromoly (0.9/0.6/0.9mm wall and 0.8/0.5/0.8mm on the later oversize tubesets), had curved 'Max Mud room' chainstays and triple bottle cage mounts.

Mine has stickers with 'Designed in USA' on them, but the frames were built in Taiwan by Giant.
