Univega 21" Racelite 500 - Circa 1997 Ex Karma from this forum

Dirt Disciple
This has been a painfully slow project, always put on the back burner as other projects come along, as well as ups and downs of life!

Gifted to me in August 2018 by "Widowmaker" who when I checked threads on here bought it from "stevelewis" in 2015.

Lately I have had more time to get involved with bikes again and felt I must sort this project. Frameset I get the impression has spent more time as a frameset than a bike as such. Other than a few storage marks it shows no obvious signs of ever being ridden.

My skillset is not fine tuning bikes other than basic assembly, I leave the fine tuning and set up to LBS where applicable.

This was never going to be a period correct rebuilt, more a project utilising parts I had to hand. Many parts are modern day but tried to use many hopefully period correct XT stuff I had stored away from previous purchases on this very forum.

Only today doing a quick research of this frame sets history here that I found a thread of Widowmaker suggesting he was intending a rebuild with slicks in order to have a fast road bike.

Strangely that was my thinking to do the same,

Would love to know any further history on this frameset through this forum?

Ridden it for the 1st time today and was genuinely impressed, lovely fast road ride by my modest standards.

Obviously a huge belated thank you to widowmaker who I remember being a perfect gent to deal with at the time!

Looking good, I knew very little about Univega before I bought it and was impressed with how it rode. Comfortable pretty light and perfect for popping some semi slicks on.

One frame I wish I'd kept. Glad it's getting used.

Enjoy 👍
