uk regional dialect

Woodlice in Scotland are slaters, cows are coos or ky, sparrows are speugs though most animals are beasties. My favourite dialect expressions are from Shetland and it is English dialect not a foreign language which include incomers being ferryloupers, a skua (kind of seabird) is a bonksy and to deter you from dropping rubbish they say Dunna Chuck Bruck

Round my way the accent changes almost between towns. Very slight, but between me and the town 10 miles away there is a difference. Tis strange!
I think thats the same everywhere but it's harder to pick them out if you're not a local.
I used to share a house with a guy from Scunthorpe a girl from Bolton a guy from Slough and me from Newcastle upon Tyne a french girl who moved in swore we all sounded the same :?
My accent is toned down following a stint in London where if I didn't tone it down I had to repeat myself over and over.

Nail hit on head!

To anyone not familiar things tend to be generalised.

One of my bast pals is from Kent, but even after many years living in London he doesn't sound a whole lot different to most south east Londoners.

My uncle is from Wiltshire but has lived in Cornwall for many years, can't tell him apart from the locals but of course they all can.

My accent is a mash up and influenced by wherever I am spending most time. I find myself dipping into stronger Scots when I am around other Scots, but equally out in the Irish pubs I drop into my rural Scots that has an Irish bent.

One thing I know is it makes life interesting.

I was out near Aberdeen buying a car the other day and the guy kept repeating everything he said in 'English', I had to tell him I had no problem understanding him so no need.

One of the more interesting clans, rich sods. Donnachaidh is mine, old but poor! :)

A damn fine clan. With a great clan chief who lived at the top of a hill and demanded people came to him.

Round here they have the weardest local dialect ever. Sounds really yocal to my ears. Only extends over an area of about 5 miles but definately unique.
