Tyre / rim problems :(

I was brought up with the rule that you never fully pump up brand new tyres. Pump them up to 2/3rds pressure, do a shortish (say 15 mile ride) and at that point they'll have flexed themselves into a secure position. Then you can pump them up to the hard pressure

Don't know if it actually makes any difference or the science behind it, just how I was advised many years ago

Tyres with steel wire beads work better with hookless rims than kevlar-beaded folding tyres, IME.

I use 27" wire-beaded Panaracer Paselas on my old 27" rims. Good tyres.

I use Michelin World Tour, Panaracer Pasala and Schwalbe Marathon wire beaded tyres on vintage Weinmann hookless rims and have had no problems at up to 80psi. Folding tyres are a no-no.

This is a. A lovely bike and b. Heartening news as the Pasala’s arrived and are currently at 70psi in the garage. Let’s see what the morning brings.

Was the original a marathong?
They are a popular tyre, we sell loads but I don't like them much.
thick and greasy.

The pasaela is in a different world of quality - I think this is probably the most likely solution🤞
