Tyre Confusion

Ordered new tyres for my Proflex XPX. Original tyres are Primal Raptor 26 X 1.95. Found these online for the bargain price of £6.50 each.

It says 26 X 1.95 on the delivery note but the tyres are marked 26 X 44/47

Is this the same?

Did the originals run a little small?
The first number represents the casing size and the second number the maximum tread width.
44mm = 1.73 "
47mm = 1.85"
So not actually a 1.95.

It depends on whether they measure the casing or knobbles. Most Japanese tyres seem narrower than the number suggests - my Geax 1.85 semislicks are exactly the same width as 2.0 Specialised and 2.1 Panaracers.

I think they all measure to the extremes, don't they? Just measured an Explorer '2.1' - carcase width 48mm = 1.9.

The 2.1 / 1.9 etc measurement is the section width of the tyre in inches, the widest part of the tyre not including any tread. Different manufacturers measure it at different points across the section of the tyre and all claim they are the ones doing it correctly. Conti and IRC always seem to come up narrow compared to the same size in other brands.
