Turn the frown upside down! Retro goldmine!

If anyone is in it for ā€œinvestmentā€ they may well be disappointed.

The crowd who the bikes appeal too are aging rapidly and will soon lose interest. Once this happens they are just old bikes. Happens across lots of hobbies built on nostalgia.

I collect them as it makes me happy to have them in my possession. If they suddenly became worthless , Iā€™d still add more to the garage

This is far more a sales platform than a build site these days. Comments are drying up due to the ā€˜likeā€™ button. Previously members would join the conversation and be part of the thread.

Lots of new members donā€™t respect the old standards of etiquette and decency.

There always was some of that but it seems we have pockets that think if you warn or are making a joke it means carte blanche.

Just my view that Iā€™m entitled to. And Iā€™m being polite.

Edit: 21 of 35 threads on page one are sales or links to sales at present. There are 3 build threads.
So how to turn that round? Not the sales but the old standards. For sure I'm guilty of the new standards. Sometimes people write things that make me laugh out loud , so I respond with a smiley face or a thumbs up type thing. In the olden days of the late 2000's on this site did we not have smileys ? ( I can't remember because I'm retro) Maybe non smilies would be a better place for the site

Any of you retro Dudes and Dudesses familiar with the legendary Gold Mine? It's probably what drew my attention to this thread. There were Fat Willy's surf shack stickers in the rear windows of cars all around the country but there was also another....

I look at my sales threads and think fcuk it may as well chuck it in the bin it costs me money to keep stuff thats not worth keeping. I could let it go for karma but that still means having to give it my time to list it, pack it and post it and anti nobody got time for that sh1t. Bikes sitting in a lock up not been ridden for 5 years again costing me money.
I used to get some retro rides going, but when no-one was interested in the last one I lost heart and couldn't be arsed to do it again. I used to look forward to MM and L'eroica Britannia but they have fallen by the wayside, the lack of retro events also has an impact on the hobby, being in cumbria its at least a 3hr drive to get anywhere and I'm too bloody old to get up a 5 in the morning to go and ride a retro bike somewhere. I've got 2 bikes to build and I'll eventually get round to doing them and I'll do a build thread for them I don't have to look for the parts as I have them already just need to get them painted and built. The older I get the more important time is to me I can't take the coin with me and I'm sure as hell I don't want to be buried with a ton of scrap bicycle parts.

So is it dying out ? for some of us yes it is, I get home from work have my dinner walk the dogs then watch you tube and got to bed, rinse and repeat. The world is getting so fcuked up I couldn't give a toss if it ended tomorrow as long as I'm with my dogs when it happens I'll die happy.

So yeah thats the other side to the story...

I love this gaff ! Apparently joined in 2006, ā€œbitd, bitdā€ šŸ˜†

More of a brouser these days, but if thereā€™s something worth saying Iā€™ll pipe up.

The actual bike trade/industry itself is pretty stagnant currently, but by the amount of retro kit on eBay etc, and the regular activity here shows our strength.

In Greek legend, ā€œBarendaā€ was the god of Retro and ā€œHypaglidaā€ was the god of nostalgia

Thee will live FOREVER !!
