I know it's not much use but I had the wheels that Gus is now in possession of and used tyres and tubes, steel beaded Wildslipper Lites(had some UST tyres, just never fitted them, not sure why). The tyres were a snug fit but got them on with one nylon tyre lever plus the heel of my hand. Got them off with out any drama too.
The worse tyre I ever fitted was a slick on my cousin's commuter, after puncturing 4 innertubes and snapping 3 tyre levers plus nearly having my eye out as one pinged across the room (that was my excuse for putting the mirrored M Frames on anyway) I took them to the LBS. The young lad in the shop then wrestled on the tyre with his bare hands, belying his tender years with some iron wristed and frankly mystical work. Having seen this I now mostly fit tyres without recourse to anything more than one tyre lever although my wife does give me some funny looks at my raw and bleeding palms.
