Trueing the untrue-able

Hi guys,

I recently had quite a bad crash. Completely ruined the wheel. I was very annoyed as I Urgently needed the bike a few days later and couldn't find a replacement in time.

Had to true it. Took it to all my local bike shops only to be told it was done for and to buy a new one. To cut a long story short, with some patience, a hammer, a spanner and a lot of effort I managed to pull it back from a skewed mess into a respectable looking wheel (it's not perfect, but it will do. I wish I had taken some pictures to show the transformation.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever true'd a wheel that has been condemned by the so called "experts"?

also just saw this great deal for bike lights. should help me not crash next time!

Bend the aluminium past the elastic limit and there are problems.....not sure I'd like to ride it for long :(

I've trued some pretty wobbly steel rims. If you rebuild the wheel with new spokes you start by tightening down all the spokes by the same amount and it often pulls a bent rim back into round.
