Trek Y build

Dirt Disciple
Today I got a package with my new project inside 🥳
Im looking to do a full respray (colour or colours not decided yet) and then build up with xtr, pace forks and I gave some Spox wheels on the way for it too 😎
Im really undecided if I should do a custom paint job, or recreate an original paint job!?? I do have a beautiful yellow pearl which I bought for it but I have slightly gone off that idea! I have painted several flip paint bikes recently so that’s an option🤷 But I’m open to peoples opinions?
leaving the current paint is not an option as it’s been laid on too thick and is now cracked, and would also like to make it my own B163C0E9-AE85-4B43-B3EA-F477CEB3D36E.jpeg

Finally after a few hours of sanding I have the Trek Y back to carbon and to a blank canvas 😅 I was really tempted to leave this frame naked carbon or with a tinted clear coat, but after much thought, planning and probably 10 different paint job ideas 😂 I have decided to paint her! Hopefully will get to lay some paint over the week or so 🥳

Build update
Yesterday I decided to paint the Y yellow with black decals and all went well! But once finished painting and getting ready to lay the clear coat I thought is this nice enough 🤔 and I think all I have really created is a replica of a paint job already done! So I decided to strip it all back again, 11 hours work stripped off just an hour after finishing it 😬
So back to the drawing board

Build updates 😊

Paint update!
New paint is ordered and on the way so now I’m excited, it won’t be a typical retro paint job that’s for sure but I want something different so that’s cool, I love a flip paint so I have decided to go with a new style of cromacoat which I think will look great, I also think the Trek decals are a bit dull and it’s hard to make them look anything other than just stickers! The Trek logo on the yellow paint job were airbrushed, so I have decided to re-use Peachy’s original design and I have cut some stencils used from his build thread. So should be laying the paint next weekend 😬🤩 E4A41AC3-8505-42EE-BAF9-FB6214120874.jpeg

Bushings update
When I bought the frame it didn’t come with a shock but luckily I had an old Rockshox monarch of a Cannondale scalpel I once had which is 165mm so that’s worked out perfect, but I needed bushings so this is where I started thinking about the geometry of the bike and as it’s going to be a rider I also want to make this ride as good as possible. The pace forks that are going on this build are going to be converted to 90mm which will raise the bottom bracket and slacken the head angle, so I have bought offset bushings which you can have made to spec, this will lower the bottom bracket and slacken the head angle a little more too! So if all goes to plan the bike will have a more modern head angle with out effecting the bottom bracket height! Win win 🤩 13665501-45AF-48A2-A43B-73DF5CD0B4B7.jpeg

wheels and rear mech
Not too much to add (run on about)
I really love the look of the Spox wheels and when I got a chance of a pair I knew I had to have them, they are fairly light too at 1650g I think and should look smart too on the build, I really didn’t want carbon spins or rev’s although they look really cool my build is more about building a nice riding bike I can happily thrash around Thetford Forest!
The rear mech I picked up off eBay for a good price and it looks even better than I thought so really happy with that 🤩
