I have always wanted to build a single speed trail bike from a newer aluminum beach cruiser and this thread will be my lessons learned and cost. I found the bike I was looking for on craigslist and traded an old tv that was laying around the house
Lesson #1 I didn't want a coaster brake so I started to look at hub and rim choices. Beach cruisers have a rear hub spacing of 110mm so I was thinking a bmx hub with 26" rims. Come to find they are not that common but I did find a pair on Ebay with a flip flop hub. On order $179.00
Other items on order: Triple butted aluminum forks $65.00. May change to Surly Big Dummy
Origin 8 square taper cranks 175mm $50.00
FSA 34T chainring $35.00
FSA 1 1/8 threadless headset $45.00
So here is what I am starting with. I wanted this frame because it's aluminum and I liked the look of the tubes and how well they were welded.
