Trek - Cunningham/WTB

OMG... a reply from on high! ;)

Yep, that's a schoolboy interpretation on my part... how did the tie up come about? Through the SunTour connections? Did the WTB geometry get licensed and trickled down the range - if so, when did that come to a halt?

Mombat's info is a tiny bit misleading which is probably causing you to assume that the 87 bike is a replica of the 86 bike. In 87 the bike was the WTB-Trek Team bike, not a "replica" as mombat states. 87 was the only year they rode the Trek.

Replica as in not a team race bikes (IE: a replica of the bikes that the actual team rode). Manufacturers often offer bikes that may be technically identical to the race bikes but can be bought by the general public. I think the Tomac Raleigh replica bikes would be the classic example. They built replicas of the actual race bike that was currently be raced by Tomac.

I'm guessing that the Trek Team Replica was of their 1986 WTB/Trek race team bike, as the timeline suggests that there was a Cunningham Race Team for 1987.

The Cunningham and WTB teams co-existed for a few years. The Cunningham team rode Cunninghams and the WTB team rode Treks, and Potts.
