Trek 970 - Aberdeen

I’ve bought
I’m well chuffed @Jam_SWorks, this bike has clearly ended up with the right person. Super cool that you were likely working there when the chap bought it almost 35 years ago. And I’m sure he’s glad it’s gone to someone who’ll appreciate it rather than a student to trash and discard it. Looking forward to seeing it returned to the original spec.

Love how a bit of history makes it round 35yrs later. I’ve got the exact catalog and it’s a 1991 same as my 8900.

I was many a visitor to Alpine bikes back in the day. Road with lots of the Alpine bikes riders at races. Great group we all had together at the SCU rounds.

If memory serves me right Cycling world was a Trek dealer until 1992 then Alpine bikes took on Trek there afterwards. After CW shop burnt down and got rebuilt.

Brilliant. Very appropriate that it’s a ‘91 model too. I’ll need to get my uncle-in-law to give me a refresher on the bike shop landscape in Aberdeen in the 90s. He’s long retired from the game but has some great stories from back then. He’s not a sentimental guy but was particularly proud of his relationship with Trek. Which must’ve started quite early in the AB timeline cos he was already a Top 10 Trek dealer in 1991.
