Have just got me old trek 920 singletrack out an running again, not been used in a long time as it got put aside for newer stuff. Cant seem to find much info on it, think it was about 94 when i brought it, its dark green, lx kit.
Does anyone know why they were not as popular as the kona ? i really cant remember why i didnt buy a kona, but i chose the trek instead, it rides beautifully. would like to find another one!! your views

speaking as a trek 930 owner, from '91, I get the distinct impression that Trek is perceived as a rather mainstream brand lacking somewhat in character and spunk...
You can find out a fair bit at:

they have links to lists of colours and years etc...

Treks although good bikes, never really got the kudos of other brands. Thankfully for you, it means picking up a tidy Trek will be cheap, whereas a Kona you would have to pay well over the odds for ;)

I had a 930 from 1993 i think. Nice bike, very solid, dependable and pleasant to ride. I think Trek are viewed as a faceless corporation and don't have the 'cool' factor thing that the like of Kona, etc enjoy

Yep, if Treks were made using old technology tubing, welded in some bearded mans shed, and weighed a lot more with shit paint (Trek paint used to be rock hard!!), they would be much more desireable!

Trek were far more popular than Kona, Orange et al. I probably sold 5 trek for every one of the others. Admittedly they tended to be first bikes, upgrade buyers went for the other brands, or jumped to the top of the range 990 or OCLV/carbon/ali ones. Strangely the bikes that never sold too well were the 920-950, bloody well build and priced bikes, just a bit 'Mondeo' in a world of two seater sports cars

Liking all the replys, trust me iam not bothered if i ride my trek i love it had it yrs, all i can say is i like the thought that i have a nice old steel bike, an its different. Think my frame is true temper ox, didnt the later kona explosifs use this to?

i had a 970 years ago until it got nicked out the garage one night, to be replace with a orange p7 which got traded in for the LTS1
