Trek 7900 Front deraulleur with cable housing stop

Hi,
I´m trying to fix up a Trek 7900 from 1991 and I need a front derailleur. The Trek catalogue lists it as a Shimano Deore DX top pull. The derailleur cable housing runs from the end of the cross bar to a derailleur cable housing stop on the derailleur (there is no derailleur cable housing stop on the seat post). I can't find this type of derailleur. Does anybody know where I could get it and the full model number? Or I'd be greatful for alternative suggestions.

Not sure this is exactly what you're looking for, but the part no for a Deore DX FD top pull from the early 90's is FD-M651, (bottom pull version FD-M650) There's always a few M651's on e-bay NOS £20-£25.

Its not a derailleur, its a housing stop shimano made that bolted to the derailleur.

Not the greatest pic but it was handy to show you.

I have bodged one of those out of one of these in the past:

remove the barrel adjuster and use a stepped ferrule instead, then take off the nut a nd screw the threaded end into the mech. Not perfect and i am sure someone will have a better suggestion, but this has worked for me.

Unless you're after the PERFECT restoration, a problem solves clamp on cable housing stop for the seat tube is a simpler solution.

Thanks a million for all the helpful suggestions. I think I'll try the V Brake 'noodle', which looks the simplest solution, while I see if I can track down a Shimano bolt-on housing stop. Failing that, I'll go for the clamp-on stop and then the barrell adjuster. And I do need the front derailleur too. I'll take a look on Ebay.
