Torque setting

I just realised (bit slow today) that the Shimano 600 arabesque crankset bolts are:

1) self releasing
2) 6mm

The first I can cope with, all this modernism

What would be the correct torque setting for such a small bolt doing such a big job?

Torque settings…. I normally tighten by hand and then give it another nip probably about 30-35 newtons

If you are worried can you not just throw the self release crank bolts away and put in old style bolts?

I do this on my car, when my elbow says ouch, I stop, but I think this is ok for my sixty year old car, I mean what's the worst that can possibly happen? :D

But this is different, this is Mrs T's bike...and she's watching :D

Just tell her that you're gonna torque them up to 30nm after you've greased them with high tec lithium grease. Her eyes will glaze, she'll stifle a yawn with the back of her hand and very quickly find something more interesting to do, like watching paint dry or something.
And if That doesn't work, explain how much a torque drive will cost!

:D

That's never gonna work...

Mrs T adjusting the clutch on my car :D

the beauty of the Allen key design is that their lengths and thicknesses are the size they are to prevent over torquing. If you do your 6mm bolt up by hand with a key you don't need a torque wrench
