Re: Bottom Bracket Removal?

Are you using the correct and well fitting tools?

I find I often have to extend the tools with a steel tube.....

If you have a vice then tool an bb in vice and use frame for leverage sometimes works.

Re:

+1 to well fitting tools.

Apols if you already know all this but Park Tools website shows the right ones https://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-he ... ridge-type

...other manufacturers' tools are cheaper but not usually as nice.

However, if you have tried the right tools and it's not moving, and you can't get it fixed in a vice, then penetrating fluid is a good move, as well as heating with a heatgun or blowtorch, which can melt really well stuck grease.

Failing all else, judicious use of a big Stillson wrench can be really effective at shifting the lock ring.

'Some people' use a hammer and punch on these components but if they are stuck fast and you want to reuse them (and why not) the hammer/punch route can wreck them.

Cheers

Re: Bottom Bracket Removal?

I presume you have removed the lock ring and its the cups that are stuck?

Re: Bottom Bracket Removal?

I had the same problem and used the Park tool I also got some large washers of different sizes and used the nut on the end to clamp the tool in place so it can't slip out of place I then got the frame on a solid concrete a floor with a flat piece of board under it for protection .then giving the tool a few sharp taps with a heavy hammer I managed to get the cup moving.Once moving I slackened the nut on the end and was able to totally unscrew the cup using the tool by hand..I then pulled the shaft out and put a long bolt through the bottom bracket and used washers again to clamp the tool on the other side so it didn't slip.I think it does need to have the hammer treatment to get it to move .
I am sorry if this is clear as mud I would have put photos up but I have just had a knee replacement so I can't get into my loft workshop at the moment.

Re:

There's a whole load of info in the forum on this subject if you search for it... this is quite a lengthy one...HERE Enjoy :!:

Success!

Although having seen what was inside I was tempted to throw it back together and pretend it never happened.

I guessing it's beyond saving?
