The Ventoux descent takes you to Sault, then Sisteron which is at the foot of the Italian Alps, and the next big mountain Tour finish of Isola 2000 right on the border. One sometimes follows the other in the Tour. It's about 200km between the two peaks.

Ventoux which is in the Provencal alps is no wear near the italian alps, unless you consider 200km close.
