Top pull derailleur cable

Hello.
I'm rebuilding a 1999 Kona Caldera (will post pics when I'm done!).
The cable to the top pull xt derailleur takes an odd line, is this normal?

I've just about decided to go 1x9 and get rid of the front mech. Then I can use the unused bar space and cable guides for a dropper post

yes they can come out quite wide on that style, use the Top-Swing for a neater routing.

That's what I do.
Found a pic of my lobster, you can see what the cable lines going to be like with the new XT mech; it gets even worse when you pull the cage out.
And the not so good pic of it with a top swing mech, the cable is the line inline with the seat post.

I think the cable is supposed to go around the black pivot bit rather than direct to the cable clamp.

That's for bottom pull usage, in the dual-pull mechs.

The cable is supposed to go around that, pretty sure. If you think about the pull from top. The direct route in the pic is wrong.

Essentially the cable run turns a top pull into a bottom pull.

Bottom pull would run straight to the cable clamp.

As the cable is pulled up (shortened) , it pulls the mech out.
For bottom bull it loop over the top, between the hooks, so it behaves in the same way the top pull does.
