I have to change the stem on my Colnago master, but seems to need a special tool? its quite a distance down the "stem tube" and its impossible to see whats on the bottom . Do anywone know what this could be, do i need a very long allen key or is it a 10mm bolt, or what?
Fairly sure it should have an allen head at the top of the stem and a long bolt going top to bottom. Sounds a bit like the bolt is already out but the wedge is still holding the stem in. You'll need to find another bolt, drop it down the hole and screw it in a few turns so you can give it a sharp tap with a hammer to shift the wedge. Or put the widest flat-bladed screwdriver you can fit in there and give that a tap. Basically you just need something long enough that won't damage the threads.
Question is why it's not in there - was it taken out or has it sheared off?
I think shimano has a "special" twist on this stem, you need a long tool to a short bolt in the bottom of the stem, from under i can see the bolt and the nut. But do not know what tool will remove the bolt.
