Tony Oliver Bike

Hiltaldo

Retro Newbie
Hi, after some advice. We’ve received this Tony Oliver Bike in our recycling workshop and we’d like some more information about it. It had been modified by its previous owner but we’ve removed that, cleaned everything up, replaced the chain and tyres along with all cables and outers (including making two new cables for the FIVE speed Sturmey Archer hub - which I’ve never seen before). It’s dated 1986.

Can't say much about the maker, that cable straddle is from a CLB brake and there is more information about 5 speed Sturmey Archer gears in this thread...

Jamie Oliver's brother innit

The Sturmey five speed setup on my Raleigh Dynaflite gives me the same range of gears as a 10 speed (8 usable) 42x52-14-24 standard 80's road bike setup albeit with just 5 speeds it's really easy to use. Tony Oliver wrote a book on touring bikes I believe and please more information and pictures. ..cheers VC.

Tony Oliver was a true engineering-led frame builder. His bikes are always well thought through, avoid fashion and are superb for their owner's brief (whatever that was). He toured Iceland on a custom 753 on some seriously off road routes.

It will be a great bike, they don't come up often for sale.

It’s finished and going out for sale
