I can see Kev on one of these...

Mr K

why? I'd be embarressed to ride it! get an original, not a half-a$$ed sellout!

Blondes and Brunettes again Scant - I'd be embarassed to be pictured on an Orange 5

nar, this isnt blondes & brunettes. what the tomac supposed to be? seems to be the b'std son of many blondes, brunettes & with a big heaped soon of ginger ;)
yeti front end paint, totally new parts, breezer dropouts! when did tomac ever ride breezer dropouts? surely a anniversary model should celebrate previous tomac frames? sorry this is just a massive marketing sell out.
i'm sure it'll ride fine tho, after all its all modern!

& for the record, orange5 & similiar are hire bike mentality, you dont buy it for the looks, its for pure thrashing. as always pop over for a ride & I'll show ya what I mean ;)

I like drop bars on mountain bikes!!

would it be hugely wrong to put them on my eldridge grade???

also would you use bar end shifters or could i use modern 8speed sora triples? is the amount of cable pulled the same for a road bike as a mountain bike?

thats possibly the funniest thing you've ever said or written Mike!

Not saying that I don't disagree with some of your points on the build but I'm not sure this is just a marketing ploy. As MrK says this bike and other re-incarnations of yesteryear will only increase awareness of how our sport evolved, and may make some riders appreciate other facets of it more too.

Mike I'm not knocking the Orange 5. I'll admit to quite liking its geeky looks! And I'm sure they wouldn't have sold so many if it rode badly. Maybe this is where I'm struggling with modern bike selection - I want something that will look as good as it rides.

Anyway going off topic. A T-disc would be cool on there but suspect it wouldn't fair well with disc brake forces?

quote of quote of quote
yeh the "b'std son of many blondes, brunettes & with a big heaped soon of ginger" made me laff as I typed it.. kinda alteration of "the good, the bad & the ugly".. "you son of a thousand b'stds"

I can see what they're trying to do (same with the stumpy) but I dont think its that well executed, well it could hav been done a lot better.

hire bike mentality is great. dont worry about cleaning etc ;)
if you want a modern bike thats gonna look cool try some like vicious (with a titus racer X back end). with a custom paint front end would look the bolx :D

webbys got a sram disc brake hub on a disc drive... I shudder to think about the long term potential effects as well! (webby doesnt actually use it with a disc brake just to clarify ;)

I can appreciate nods to MTB'ings past heriage, but I can recall JT himself saying putting drop bars on his MTB was his coaches idea and it sucked.

Kinda nice but too many flaws for that amount of dough. Would rather spend the $5700 on rody(or a few others) fabricating a real tribute/heritage bike with pimp and retro parts.

I really dont like the look of that . It is a mismatch of parts .

The only nice part are the forks , they are looking good .

But it happened! And unless history/Photoshop does a rewrite, we'll always be in awe of the thought of Tomac barrelling downhill on drops!

Mr K

PS. Having seen a skinsuited Kev 'barrelling' downhill in the Peaks, there are some homages that are perhaps more enthusiastic yet less respectful to JT than this bike....

I guess my point was its neither a modern bike that rides well or a retro bike that inspires nostalgia.
