Re: Birm Velo 100 2017

101 miles, 6 hrs 35 mins riding time, 6,100 ft, 5,700 cals, 15.4 average, 43 mph fastest speed, feeling quite proud of this achievement.

I had a great day on this ride, my first road 100 miler, there was much interest in the shinney Holdsworth, and was photographed by the motorcycle camera man, despite the dire warning so of the 'big' Ribble mountain the climb up it was quite sedate but managed not to stop, but suffered on the last few hills before finish suffering bad cramp in left leg, was very surprised by the large number of new high tech bikes on the road side with punctures and problem with bikes littering the roadside every few hundred yards, there were huge problems with the water and food stops so I didnt stop at them as they were so congested with thousands of riders, my times were 6hr 35 min riding, 101 miles, 15.4 average, am so pleased that we oldies on trad bikes were able to get the ride without drama, I am off to South Africa for next Eroica ride then Holland and Tuscany.

Excellent stuff Commander glad to see you flying the flag for the old skool :D

Well today is my birthday and I always like to have a ride out and this year was no different apart from having some company along for the ride, My mate Bill who's 73rd birthday it was yesterday and he is still fit as. So I had it in my head to go out and climb Great Dun Fell which I can see from my house on a good day. From the bottom of the climb to the radar station at the top it is 4.7 miles 2050ft with an average gradient of 8.4%. The quickest time on Strava is 25mins20sec  it took me and Bill 55mins, but so happy we got to the top with out stopping :D

the Radar station is somewhere in the cloud bank.

2km to go

Me and Bill finally make it :D

Cloudy at the top

Looking Back at the lakeland Fells

Looking back on the way home the cloud had finally cleared

Only a short ride 37 miles in total but everytime I look upon the the Fell I know I've been up there, I'll do it again next year hopefully it won't take an hour :D
