Tips to get my stuck seatpost out...

Aluminum seatpost stuck in a steel frame... My usual tip is to flip bike over and fill the water bottle cage eyelet with penetrating oil and try let it soak into post.. Doesn't seem to be doing much, My other method is drilling a hole through post and sliding a steel rod through so I can get leverage and twist it...

Well it's still seized in there, and need some more tips..

Thanks!

Soak for a few days (as above) with Plus-Gas or diesel then hold the seatpost in a vice and try and turn the frame. This often does the trick....

A couple of threads on the topic - the caustic soda is a LAST RESORT TO BE TAKEN WITH EXTREME CAUTION AND PROPER SAFETY EQUIPMENT SUCH AS GOGGLES, GLOVES AND A PROTECTIVE APRON AT THE VERY LEAST!!! (and NEVER on an aluminum/alloy frame - this steel frame you could get away with it)

And it'll ruin the paint.

Oh hell yes but it will be SO worth it!

Props to 'samc' for his crazy cool effort - just wanted to point out the 'tongue in cheek' suggestion. I did feel obliged to add a 2nd cautionary response in case it was taken as a serious suggestion.

Hoping 'samc' follows up with a themite reaction to remove the seatpost!

Also try LGF's method before the caustic soda one.

He uses an old Quill stem & bars fitted to said seatpost & frame in vice to twist & turn ( being careful to protect frame) after soaking i Plus-Gas for a few days.

If you do a search for "stuck seatpost" on here you'll find some pics.

Caustic soda! Caustic soda!

It works, it's dangerous AND it's less effort than anything else because you don't have to saw/twist anything.

Unless you like the paint job on your frame, in which case yeah... last resort.

Doesn't ammonia solution work as well. Do that in a well ventilated room with some sort of respirator depending on how strong your ammonia solution is but I would try LGFs method first.

Any strong alkali, I think.
