Like the title says really, how would i go about touching up the scratches on an xtr m900 rear mech? Is there a shade o paint or nail varnish thats a close match?

Cheers

This was the subject of a previous thread and a number of suggestions were made,by memory it was suggested that there are different XTR greys and that they can fade.

I tried Vallejo German Grey 70.995,however it came out too dark for my M950 levers.

Think I'll just take the mech with me to the local branch of boots and try to find a matching nail polish colour :?

This is a good plan, or if you wanted to spend some money then a professional auto paint store can match any color perfectly. One caveat, around here the minimum purchase is a pint, which is a lot of waste. (unless you have a mountain of XTR bits that need work)

Re:

Go to a model shop which has a good selection of Humbrol paints. Get the closest match and a really small brush. ;)

Re:

Now, don't laugh, but.....Halford's! They have a paint-match service that will give you a touch-up bottle's worth if you can match it to one of the millions of auto paint shades on their books.

Re:

Buy light grey and black small tins of model paint. Mix and match until you get the right shade. Probably get a better match than off the shelf. It's worked for me on different bikes.

Re:

I have to agree with the Humbrol enamel paint suggestion. I mixed a matt black and grey to get the right colour and used to touch up my lever and rear mech. Took some time to mix the right shade, but blended so well it doesn't show, looks original. My tip is mix more than you need of what you think is the right shade, paint it on something metal and wait for it to dry to check colour match. Then hey presto, small artist brush and those scratches will be a distant memory. :D

Re:

the m900 grey though has a slight blue tint to it which makes it a little harder to match. maybe a dark blue paint mixed with a dark grey would work better :?

this would be the specimen, as you can see it needs a fair bit of work to get it looking presentable again
