Tip find...

Evening all.

Had some stuff to take down the tip this week and as always did my ceremonial sneaky look in the metal skip. What do I see? Two wheels sticking straight up as if the bike was begging to be saved from its certain transformation to shopping trolleys or kitchen pans. I asked the guy if I could take it which he said yes.

So I'm the proud owner of a viscount Indi 500 which has all of its original components and decals (just). I intend to use only parts from the spares box and get a nice little wet day bike.

I know this isn't a colnago by any means but will shine up to ride another day and if my colnago had been threw in a skip it wouldn't have escaped injury like the count did...

One other thing to add the bar ' material' looks like asbestos lol.

That's a great find and far too good to ever deserve to come to that sort of gruesome end.
I'm sure it will clean up and ride really nicely, especially for that price, it's definitely a win

Yes, I agree. Why do people just throw away a bike that could be useful to someone. Disgraceful!

I thought the previous owner must have ridden straight into Nora Batty and got her tights caught up in the bars!

I agree. The bike has had a couple of hours spent and no money and is actually a really nice ride.

So the "count" has had a good clean whilst keeping the patina. Bearings greased and chain lubed. Wheels straightened and mud guards aligned best I could.
Added the corks to the bars after a couple of bottles at my barbeque last Friday. The funny thing is I get more enjoyment getting old beat up bikes riding again then the high end bikes!

Nice save, I recently had a very similar story with an Ernie Clements, that chap who dumped it tapped me on the shoulder as I was poping it in my car & gave my his card.
He brought it new in the 80's & I'd made his day saving it as he felt awful dumping it.

Great find! I had one of these a couple of years ago; a low-end one like yours, not an Aerospace. It was a really nice ride. Viscount did some well set up bikes.

Was out on it again today and it is getting abit smoother as the grease beds in them worn bearing cups. Doesn't like 5th gear very much though no matter how hard I try to tune it jumps. Maybe worn teeth who knows. Next is a brown leather bag for the back.... Anyone got one or is it another trip down the tip haha
