Thunderbolt with raceface and XT!

i think they had revived the "Edge" moniker in the early/mid 2000? they really shouldn't have revived the Thunderbolt as a full suspension. :p Let's see what RM does with bringing back the "Blizzard". :?

Second that... They should have done what specialized did... Re-released it with the old school frame design and modern parts... So steel fillet brazed with new XTR

That bike does look sick though! It will be a sweeeeet ride!

Re: naming rocky's

Ya, what's up RM? An Altitude is a high end steel rig, not some super-squish land yacht! Likewise, the Thunderbolt. How about a limited run re-release of one of these models? It was done with the Blizzard. Or maybe just come up with some new model names instead of trading on, and diminishing your company's great history? (And when all that's new is named after the old, it's such a pain in the butt trying to search for old RM frames.)

Phew. All that said...Congratulations on yer new Thunderbolt. I'd only be happier for you if it was a mint steel hardtail you were gonna be flicking through the turns on the local singletrack.

I have to disagree, I think that using the old model names is great. Back in the day different models denoted different spec more than riding type. today there are many specs within a model. All the bikes were essentially XC bikes back in the early days and even the geometry of an altitude a blizzard and even a hammer were identical in some years, just different tubes and different fabrication locations. I think for rocky mountain the new thunderbolt was a bike they had fun designing, it is a bike that can rock XC but is not a serious race machine, it's not really a marathon bike either because of the small wheels, it's playful and fun. It's a bike for someone who wants to have fun on the trails and ride a variety of terrain with one bike. Sort what the thunderbolt was BITD. The biggest difference was that the thunderbolt was a full custom BITD.

I talked to an engineer at rocky and he said they were all really excited about the thunderbolt and he was impressed i knew it was a resurrection.

Kona just revived the explosif as a steel hardtail 650B. I think that was a more true to the origin resurrection and I agree just try and search for explosifs now.

Lastly, I will be flicking around the local single track A LOT faster on this than I would on a rigid bike, though I am looking forward to doing some vintage rigid mountain biking for fun, I will be selective about which trails. Some are way to rooted, rocky and pocked for riding rigid at the speed I can sail over the stuff on full suspension. Sure if I was a better rider I might be able to do pretty well on a rigid, but I am not. my friends ride modern bikes and if I want continue to lead the pack an not bring up the tail 10 minutes later, I will have to ride modern bikes (which I think are more fun anway).

You may throw the rotten tomatoes now.

I think it's cool that they're using the old model names for new bikes, but I agree that it makes it really difficult to search online for old Altitudes and now old Thunderbolts too!

My bet is on a Blizzard Fatbike for 2015...I'll be fine with it, as long as it's steel!

Re:

I think it's grand that you have to keep in front of the Jones's and ride fast and smooth over the ground thinking its fun. Like riding on a road. ;-)
Could be why Road riding is booming as people seem to like it flat ;-)
