Threadless stem adapter

Hi I have a frame that takes quill stem, but it has an adapter for threadless that i don't know how to remove. It's a plain alu tube with a machined collar at the base, I can see no way to get it off. It has a star fangled nut in the top. Can anyone advise how I get it out please?

Sorted, forget it - hacksawed the top off to get star nut out of the way and the quill bolt was accessible
