Done it many times no problems withe steerer. I have had issues with the AHeadset though so here is my twopence worth. Use headset with metal or rubber wedge. Plastic wedge can deform around threads then be the devil to remove for servicing. A suggestion to combat this is fill threads with Araldite then sand smooth so plastic wedge cannot deform.
You can combine the AHeadset with the threaded headset by using top threaded cap as preload adjuster then use a quil stem. I find this also deals with the problem mentioned that threaded steerers are weaker as the quil reinforces
from within.
A good bodger cannot be defeated by

I've filled the threads with epoxy- several light applications, not trying to get it done in one go. There are probably better fillers available, but epoxy sticks well to steel and can be burned off if you want to return to a threaded steerer.
When it's cured, file/sand off carefully, checking with the stem for a good fit. This has worked really well, there haven't been any problems after many years and many miles..

Just fit the right steerer man, use the fork for a threaded set up in another bike or sell it here to someone who needs it. Just get a fork in that is designed for this, instead of destroying the thread and potentially risking your life riding something that clearly isn’t made for purpose.
