Does anyone know/remember Steve Thornhill cycles in Selly oak Birmingham, and know what happened to them ?

Yeah I remember them, my mate bought his Kona Lava Dome from them while I was riding a Diamond Back Axis. My girfriend is still at Uni over that way, no sign of them anymore though. We seem to of lost a lot of the good bike shops in this area, have to buy all of my stuff from the internet now.

Yes i remember them, bought some bar ends from back in 91, no wander they aren't there anymore with repeat business like that :( :( :(

It's a curry house now. Got my green/yellow splatter explosive from there. Steve used to drive around in a BMW with private plates, we always thought he was doing well.

Whos Left?

so what good bike shops are left in Birmingham then?
Ladypool Cycles under new ownership, and dont seem too knowledgable.
the shop in Kingsheath full of young and im my opinion twats, who made me wait a month to rebuild a wheel,

and Scotts, and which i regularly use.
any others you would recommend?

was chatting to pete at scotts, and he reckons its the CRC and internet sites that are killing the LBS, but then again they recently suplied and fitted a UN54 BB and charged me £25 for the part, when i could have got it online for £5-12

I hear people are still getting green/yellow splatter explosives from there now

I remember Thornhills very well, I lived within walking distance of the shop.

He was a particularity arrogant dude, especially when it came to Mountain bikes.

I asked him to order me some white porcs, but he 'refused' told me that white tyres were stupid, and they'd look stupid once they got dirty

Also, had a mate who bought a 'dale from there.
The frame cracked after about 2 months.
A week later a replacement frame 'arrived'
Soon after it cracked in exactly the same place.
When the paint was peeled back, it turned out he'd just repainted the frame and added new decals.
The old paint was still under there (he had a paint shop out back)

His shop would of been the first place I'd seen proper mountain bikes though, Muddy Fox, Kona etc.

Cheers
RB
