The high acclaim we have received for our Audax frame initially caused us the embarrassment of being unable to hold on to any stock. We now build the frames ourselves in Bridgwater.(We have 2 highly skilled and experienced 753 frame builders.)
Audax riders require performance and comfort. We therefore decided to use 653 oversized top tubes and 531c oversized down tubes on this range. For reasons of component availability we decided not to use an oversized seat tube and opted instead for an internally reinforced (at the bottom bracket end of the tube) Reynolds 708 heat-treated seat tube. Building these tubes into cast lugs and cast bottom bracket shell has produced a stiff yet resilient main triangle. For the rear triangle we now use 753 seatstays in the functional and aesthetically pleasing shot in style and 17 inch 753 chainstays silvered into vertical dropouts - these are spaced 135mm which enables a low dish 8sp wheel to be fitted. The rear triangle provides stability and comfort yet sacrifices nothing in the way of performance, being attached to such a stiff main triangle.
