Just been on the Thomson website to check some lengths & sizes. The website states that the seatpost was first introduced in '96. So, on this basis are they acceptable on a retro build? I seem to remember Specialized spec'd this seatpost in the mid to late 90's (might be wrong on this) :?

So fellow retrobikers - what your views.. :?:

:)

I have one on my Pace and although I would like everything to be period I can ride with the confidence it is.t going to break.

The only thing that might convince me to change would be a perfect Syncros. ALl the period posts I ride from UK manufactures looked lovely but were not reliable.

Yeah, know what you mean, but saying that I had an X-lite ZE360? which I used for many years. It has since had 2 other owners (both of whom I know) been on various bikes & only just failed after about 16 years

The X-Lite post is the only one I ever had fail completely in all the time I have been riding. I've ridden Campag Carbon posts on mountain bikes without any problems i'm pretty light on them.

the 360 post failed where the clamp (Purple of course) was pressed/bonded. I had it fitted to my cross bike and it was only a few months old.

USE problems I had were only related to bolts failing, easy to fix but who wants to carry spares.

My X-Lite frame has a Thomson post but I could be tempted to use a ZE 360 for correctness if one in the right size came up.

What size? I have a spare with blue anodized clamp from a previos bike.

ive got a layback one on my steel kona.... but only because the frame was a tad too short and i needed to stretch out without using a longer stem

try finding a 27mm layback

Posts are fine for a mid-late 90s build if you are trying to be period correct, but the stems weren't until 2000.
