Things I have learnt No.1 Shimano rattly finned brake pads.

Thought I would share a few little things I have learnt over the years...

No. 1 - Finned brake pads rattling

I found that the finned pads in my M8000 XT brakes rattled and vibrated at certain speeds...it bugged me as I like a quiet ride. Solution. Cut a 5mm loop off an old inner tube and put it around the fin part of the brake pad. It acts as an insulator and stops the rattle/vibrations.

My solution was to replace them with the non-finned version when the pads wore out.

With the fins? Only less fade on long technical descents or prolonged use of the brakes. Everyday braking no...

Never had a problem with rattling finned pads with my XT disks.

I do seem to go through them quickly though!
