Interesting article in MBA commenting on the new velodrome for the Olympics. Quoting the price tag for the velopark at $125million double the initial estimate. Other figures state that it'll be used by less people in a month(possibly two) than a single pump track will be in Idaho in a day. Also a trail developer in Colorado, is quoting $3.75 per foot of trail which would mean that the money spent on the park could create 6313 miles of trail  or enough to go from New York to Whistler and back :o

125 million £ fffs

give me 1 million £ and till i cannot do it i'll take you and your mates
out on my hill every day if you like xc ,downhill , wilderness ,urban
and any other peddally nonsense you want

make that 2 million £

You have to wonder just where all the money goes.

It's all in the business contracts I guess, department X is bound by procurement contract to order stationery from supplier Y for Z amount of years so they charge £12 for a ream of A4.

Oh and let's not forget all the H&S on every level of development.

The extra 8 miles of XC at Cannock cost, I believe, £200-250 thousand.

For £125M we could have built a mountain to rival Whistler (well maybe not, but we'd get close). Wale's needs the tourism, there's nowt left at the seasides.

That's with volunteers doing the manual work.
Between £3 and £20 per meter is a ball park figure.

I've thought about approaching our local forestry commision in Stoke to create a site at Hanchurch/Swynnerton.

Time to buy some books, and find an ivestor I think:
