The Welsh Argos

Yes he rode the famous Handy Cross Marlow ski slope course known in TT jargon as the H25/2 course ain’t that period.

I liked H10/2 and H25/2. The ski slope on H25/2 was mental. Dad clocked me at 55mph down there on his way to one of the roundabouts. A good time was in the lap of the gods at the roundabout before the ski slope.

Rode it several times between 81-83 when the full slope was in use & go under the hour a few times. The A4 stretch out to Twyford was pretty poor road surface..
Here’s me in 81 on my way to 59.11

A rim so these are tubular & will have 18mm Dugasts mounted although I could get another set of yelllow soyo tubs🤔
Derek rode on Durex Aero rims with Wolber Record Route or Piste 18mm tyres but my substitute & aeroness of these rims give the overall feel of fast.

Argos making sure the wheels fit & get clearences as close as possible based on the 18mm tubulars. Bars are not mine & i just threw a weinmann 500 caliper together for the fit as Derek used this caliper in black & I have a couple of black calipers to make up a good one.

My fixed testing bike had M71 pedals and a cut down & modified Weinmann 500 mounted on the back of the crown with a drilled Mafac lever facing forwards and pivoted from within the handlebars operating a reversed cable to clear the downtube . When I bought the bike it had been used for track racing and was equipped with 165mm old-style Campag cranks - sometimes I would fit a 59T Williams chain ring (which looked even bigger with the short cranks) to wind up the local big ring guys but ran either a 18 or 19t sprocket.
I've spent an hour or so hunting through old hard-copy photos certain that there'd be a shot but all I could find was a damaged picture which I think was taken whilst I was warming up for a restricted gear 10 as it's fitted with a smaller chainring, probably a 48t from what I remember.
