Awesome, would love to go there. I thought there would be a few more tourists though.

What is the round hole/pit in middle for?
This one is further in country then Chechen Itza, archeological work only started in 1990’s. Chechen Itza receives over 10 000 visitors per day, Ek Balam has 500 per day. Both are spectacular in their own way, but photography was far easier at the latter. For comparison: 20250301_100916.webp
As for the hole, I assumed it was a well, as there is a sacred natural cenote (sink hole filled with water, seen as a portal to the underworld) for gifts to the gods
