Push the zoom to its absolute limit mostly, I know this may sound strange, when I start to zoom the moon is just a whitish blob but as the zoom increases you see a shift in the focus and the moon suddenly becomes much clearer.

30x optical zoom, then that again digital, although that one was optical only, still a but punchy from lack of sleep and can't remember the exact term but the focus is on spot rather than area.
