the unofficial 'cool' 1980's Reynolds 531/501 bike thread

LGF will be along in a minute to chase away all you unicrown fork pretenders!

He might let the lugged unicrown through if you're lucky. ;-)

Great bikes though, Dr Carlos I think I like your Saracen even more than your 531 Team!

I have this Dawes Countryman 531 atb and proper 3 piece forks but sadly without it's original saddle, wheels and drivetrain :( that crankset is revolting. Still the rest of it's there and won't take long to get back on the road/path.

Here's my slightly garish but well loved and cherished 91 Raleigh Blueridge 531 with full stx-rc gruppo (my own choice of retro hop up heaven). This is the full suss version before modern rubbish took over..
Found abandoned in the university bikesheds, watched for 3 years before being generously donated to myself by the estates dept. This was probably a runaround for one of the Indian MBA students who just left it when the course ended.
You gotta love that early MTBstyling...
Sorry it's a late entry and the forks aren't three piece, but where else can I post pictures of my pride and joy....

My next 531 restoration project is this circa 1982 - 700c wheeled, Cleland' Range-Rider.

Recognise that logo, maybe a tie-in to Land Rover Discovery series 1 of 1989 / 90? Or did somebody copy another british product logo?!

That cleland doesn't belong on such a lowly thread as this. It should be held aloft for us all to worship! I am SO jealous!

All Hail to the Venerable Cleland!

To be entrusted to restore this bike is indeed a great privilege. For me its not the owning of this Cleland that is important but that I can now help to ensure that it survives into the future. The remarkable thing about this bike is that it has been frozen in time since 1983. Since then there have been no new components and only the original saddle and mudguards are missing.

Since 1984, this bike has had a very low key existence. So posting it here should give it a nice and gentle reintroduction to the limelight. I will be starting a thread dedicated to this bike and its history. And when I do, I will post a link to that thread here.

Graham.
