Enormous, yet still rather fragile brackets in my experience.

had a front one bounce out of its clip on a bumpy ride home on evening. it exploded quite well as I mananged to run it over

Used to ride with two on the bars and two mounted either side low down on the forks. Normally went out when I wnet over a bump in the local woods and had to hit them to get them back on.

Oh the excitement at getting a set of basta lights to replace them

You had the earlier version, the later ones had a small plastic tongue that located in the lamp to stop them doing that. Amazing what rubbish you remember......
