The Tazmon Topic

Re:

I understand what you're saying. Thanks for that explanation.

At the moment the spare clamp from yetibomb is on its way from California to The Netherlands. And I've ordered some eccentric bolts at Risse Racing.
But considering you're explanation, mounting the clamp is not the right way to a durable marriage of the Tazmon frame with it's rear shock.
Still, I like the idea of having the original clamp and being able to build it back to original spec some time.
But I think for now I will just mount a Fox Or Cane Creek damper and ride it. Probably with a bit more flex in the rear.

Re:

I'd be inclined to do the same.

But it would still niggle me that Santa Cruz thought it necessary to design it that way on the Tazmon but not on their other similar single pivot rear swing-arm suspension bikes. Maybe the pivot bearings on the Tazmon are smaller than the other bikes so not as stiff or they found there was flex in swing-arm itself. Even with the design of the Risse shock that is fitted to Tazmon with 3rd mount, (beefed up bushes/seals maybe?), it still relies on the small eccentric bush being virtually friction free to work properly. Once it is loaded with rider weight and suspension movement it will still create sideways loading on the shocks internal bushes/seals.

So having said that I'd try building it both with shock/3rd mount and a shock without a 3rd mount, then lay it down on it's side supported at head-tube and rear drop-out then push down on BB and seat-post to see if there is any movement between swing-arm and seat-tube.
Just because I'm mechanically curious.

Re:

I must admit I haven't used the bike since starting up the topic.
I did find a nice Fox Float R damper. With a new Fox 5 piece flanged bushing kit it's fitting nicely.

But since I'm just not using the bike I'm offering it again. A pity but space is limited here.

Re:

I've just bought a 22 inch from Ringo, the largest size available.
It's a 1996 type I frame. Well used but without any dings or dents, so a nice basis.
The original Risse Genesis is mounted but it needs a full service; mounting a Fox Float R seems the right way to go again, just as with the blue 20 inch frame.

Although I was planning to sell the 20 inch I'm going to try both and keep the best handling frame.

Re:

Not the liveliest topic this one so I'll post some pics :D
As all needed parts were there I've started to build the Tazmon II. It's not perfect yet but it's coming close. The idea was to mount as many silver parts as possible, but I've noticed that the silver needs some black here and there for contrast.
In real life the blue colour is stunning. Really deep and shiny. An option bitd.
I'm going to use it as a rider. On mtb review it gets very positive comments so I expect it to be lots of fun.
