Re: The RB what I bought/ found/scrounged this week thread p
Today was a bit surreal. Wanted to go to the LBS to pick up a set of NOS Rock Shox disc specific White Industries wheels that have been hanging up for close to 20 years for someone with a RS disc equipped B5 and an oddly finished B2 frame with a broken derailleur hanger I could use for parts. It got kinda weird....
Went up to the mezzanine to grab the wheels from the rafters. Unfortunately that's where all the vintage shirts are, and found a Kona hockey jersey (this is Canada), a Fox T, and a BMX hoodie before I made it to the wheels.
Was grabbing the wheels, and the owner said to grab the other set that was hanging up as well. Uh, ok?
Figured while I was up there I may as well grab the NOS Paul/Mavic 217 ceramic wheel that had been up there gathering dust as well. I'm already up here, what the hell?.
Rooted around in some bins and found a few other trinkets. New RS caliper, missing the pads, Profile triple spider I could use, and some purple Control Tech bar ends I definitely can't use (but someone might).
Now the weird part. Owner pointed to a big box at the back door. "Want some seats? Gonna throw them out. There might be something in there you can use. Take the rest of them to the Co-Op in Hamilton, I know you donate frames and parts there."
Opened the box at home. Just on the top I see 4 WTB SSTs, a Ritchey Vector, Vetta something-or-other, and a few other brand names. A lot of BSO stuff, but some stuff in there is decent.
Got the AMP frame home and took a closer look at the hanger damage. The seat stay had been machined to take a replaceable hanger. I recognized the work and it was then that I remembered I had done the modification to it back in 98 or 99 for one of their customers. It was polished then, and didn't have the weird, masked off green/purple flip paint job then, though.
