Does anyone else remember the very first gen XLite bar ends? I recall ordering them mail order direct from XLite (probably from a MBUK add). can't remember the exact year. Wish I still had them but the were on my Trek 8700 when it was knocked from Uni. They were straight, black anodised, no logo, with the bar clamp tag welded on, square ends plugged. V light after an original set of neon yellow Onza's.

Not sure if there were the very first gen, but I had something like you described - in fact I think I still have ONE somewhere black, straight and very flimsy, so flimsy that I recall one of them bent... Will try and find it.
