I've been following the thread with interest as this type of thing is right up my street, even though I can't make the ride.

I must say I'm well impressed with The History Man's purchase, I really thought it was going to be a supermarket BSO when I saw the close-up of the rear disc brake considering the budget. Should be at least a "two housbricks in the rucksack" handicap though for buying a bike 10 years newer than the retro cut-off date  .

Won't need a handicap. I'll be riding it! Off to verderers tomorrow for a day out to scare myself on the FS.

Hang on, raining......... Should I go/book HEMS?

That is a bargain, but back in the heavy weight category, here's mine all for £13.50

I don't think those forks worked OK when they were new ;)

That's a great buy though and I'm watching several similar bike at present.... just waiting for the right moment to pounce

Nice. Does it all work ok?

No idea, collecting on Saturday, hopefully it will mostly work, plans include removing the reflectors and painting the seatpost. The LBS has also donated a specialised triple crankset (right only) and a deore left arm that was no use to them. So i'll spend the extra £11.50 I have left on a couple of cables and a new BB for the replacement crankset and I reckon she'll be good for at least 1 mile.

This is brilliant , didn't see the giant but had the Raleigh on my watch list. My boss won the universal one with the rack if anyone was watching that one!!

 Just want to say you have no competition from me. Rode the verderers today with a very fit very patient very young red chilli (the) didn't see much of him unless he stopped! Having not got on a bike for twenty years until last month, I was absolutely hopeless. Mr chilli (James) was a star. Do you all know CPR?

To be fair you have just ridden with the cycling equivalent of god , the man has been known to rip cranks off bikes just by clipping in!!
