Here are my two Alan bikes. I always wanted a Carbonio but the first one I acquired was the alloy Competition frame. I started building this up last year eventually completing it early this year. It is originally from Belgium and has the original owner's details engraved on the frame. I then got a bit of a bonus at work in April and found the Carbonio frame so treated myself.
Both are built up with a mix of parts, probably not to everyone's tastes but budgets and personal preference has guided the choice of parts on both. Both have Shimano 600 transmissions, the ally one has a Stronglight compact chainset and the carbon one has a budget chainset from Spa Cycles (I will upgrade this when funds allow), 165mm for both. I fitted a set of Shimano 600 brake calipers to the ally one and a set of Modolo brakes to the carbon one. Wheels are Campy Record large flange with Mavic rims and 28mm Clement tyres on the ally one and Mavic hubs with Open 4CD rims and 25mm Veloflex tyres on the carbon bike.
They ride very differently but I love both of them.

Hi. Really liking this thread, so thought I'd post a pic or two of my '91 Trek 1200. Even though it's 26 years old, I still ride it like it was a modern road bike. No creaks, no issues, no worries. In fact, the ride position and handling positively encourage me to ride the rims off it whenever I take it out. It just doesn't seem to like going slowly, and I have every confidence in it.

I have recently discovered that my steerer tube is loose enough in the fork crown to be able to turn about 10 degrees clockwise and back to centre when the front end is assembled and you turn the bars with the front wheel between the legs.
Can anyone confirm how the steerer tube is attached to the fork crown on an Alan?? is it screwed and bonded like the rest of the bike?
Due to the steerer tube being 200mm long finding a replacement is proving impossible thus far so a repair might be my only option.

The only thing I replaced was the chain, because it had some wear but not a lot.
