as long as tapes have been stored away from any damp or colder conditions they last pretty well.

Teac make very nice tape decks. I sold mine . Was buying and reselling tape decks a few years ago, some were very obscure high end stuff. Teac stood out for some reason. Think it was the v-3000.

They had some lovely offerings. Aiwa were also a bit of a specialist in cassette decks too.
