The discussion of ‘riding on the pavement’ made me think. I inhabit PINKBIKE as well as RETROBIKE but I seldom post on PINKBIKE.

Almost all comment on anything (racing, components, trails) results in a long exchange of

‘I hate you and your ideas‘
’No, I hate YOU…’
‘NO…I HATE YOU MORE!’
’Well I hate you and your bike and your DOG!’
etc
ad infinitum

It’s exhausting.

The equivalent on Retrobike seems to be:

‘Are you sure?…..’
and
’Perhaps….’

Long may the difference continue….

Are you sure, perhaps this isn't a topic for you. I would suggest you either spend some time and fettle your bike, ride it or just long for the old days of simplicity where you could buy a wheel and it would fit your frame.

(Also when 130/135 was the scale of it for a few years of crossover to 7 speed MTBs, sorted by 8speed. how many widths now?
And then the diameters...)

135, 142, 148, 150 - 100, 110 up front.
10mm QR, 10mm bolt, 10mm thru.15mm thru and the same plus 20mm up front.?
6 bolt or centre lock.
28H, 32H, 36H.
Plain, double, triple butted.
Alloy or brass nipples.
Silver or black spokes.
Straight pull or J bend
Hope, shimano old, shimano micro drive, sram.
7-10, 11, 12
Loud or quiet.
40 or a 140 points of engagement.
Eyeleted or not.
Alloy or carbon.
Widths 19 to 40.
Cushcore or not.

I make that 4 billion possible combinations.

IMO Pinkbike is very much the Facebook of the mtb world. Lots of angry keyboard warriors with too much time spent arguing and not enough doing the thing they (supposedly love) are arguing about.

Yesterday’s PINKBIKE ‘remote seatpost‘ thread, after a new review, is quite acrimonious. I then posted this, which got no likes of disLikes. None. Unlike the top, confrontational post which has nearly 150 responses. Or maybe I am just not funny.

‘…..What no one has noticed is that there is a Deep State conspiracy to spilt the mountain bike community to prevent it from taking over the world.

First it was Lycra - or not. We argued that one within the community for years.
Then
Helmets - or not.
Then
Suspension - or not.
Then
26 - or not.
Then...

There’s a pattern here. Now remote droppers or not.

Mountain bikers of the world unite!
Stop arguing - it’s what the Deep State wants!
